the hobnob hat

{true style can be taken to the city or the wilderness}

A version of this hat was the first thing crochet I ever owned. My dear soul sister, Justina, made me one for Christmas when we were living in Chicago, and I loved (still do love) it because it wouldn't mess up my hair whenever I wore it (you curly hair people know what I am talking about).  So when I was ready to up my game in the realm of crochet skills, I called her up for the pattern.  Justina was the first to really introduce me to the idea of crochet...and I love her dearly.
This hat looks great in any color.  Darker colors mute the detail, while bright colors (as shown) accentuate the popcorn and row details.

Commission me to whip you one up for only $20 plus shipping, and let the complements flow :)  Click here to email me if you are interested!

Much love,
Emily Elizabeth

NYC love

Spring Break has come and gone...leaving behind wonderful memories of friends visiting, New York City adventures, Philly excursions and making new friends.
Erin, Janell and me riding past GO to collect our $200 (Downtown Philly)
Erin, Janell, Karyn and me at the top of the Empire State Building (NYC)

Janell and I celebrated the one year anniversary of me learning how to crochet via her teaching skills.  Who knew so much could happen in a year...but it is wonderful to know that we are still friends after all that a year can bring.  Love you Janell and Erin...I am so happy you got to visit and that we got to do so many wonderful things together.

Much love,
Emily Elizabeth

Ash Wednesday

So I'm a little late in the day for my first Lent post...but that's alright...we've got an entire 40 days ahead of us.

I've always had the impression that you were suppose to keep what you are fasting a secret....or between you and God...to avoid bragging and that whole praying out loud for attention thing...but I feel like to build community, we need to share what we are giving up to support each other.  That is all I mean to do by blogging about Lent...to give you a chance to support me and allow me to support you.

I joined the mailing list for World Visions ACT:S Lent 2011:Relentless Acts of Justice, a daily Lent reflection on injustice throughout the season.  Today's Ash Wednesday reflection was a beautiful Franciscan blessing...with a desktop background as a takeaway {shown below...click to enlarge and make your desktop background, too!}
This series of reflections focuses on the tension between our life of luxury compared to the dire need of basic necessities in most of the world.  I am giving up shopping for myself for the next 40 days...how fitting to give up what I see as the most luxurious part of my life.  I pray that God would show me other places in my life where I am vain, sinfully consuming and ungrateful, and also where I shine with grace and His love.

Won't you join me on this Lenten journey...to explore our role in this world and the fight against injustice.  Sign up for these emails by clicking here.

Much love,
Emily Elizabeth

The best party ever

My cousin Allie and I are planning the bachelorette party to end all bachelorette parties for my cousin Tori who will be getting married in July.  The entire time I think of ideas to party hard, I think about the amazing bachelorette party that my sister and BFFEEEEEEE threw me.  And I have to share it with you:

The theme was something like "A little bit of Emily's childhood" which included:

Flashback to my favorite birthday party ever...the fairy party!
Making patches, which I wore for three years of my childhood...
Then adding ridiculously huge glasses...
Playing dress up and then having a walk-off (Zoolander style)...which Jessie won...
A rousing game of Emily-ingo...bingo with words that I have made up throughout the years...
A Jon pinata...which I smacked the sweetness out of...
A sparkling grape juice toast...
And last...but definitely not least...PRESENTS!!!
To be surrounded by friends that know me so well was the best present I could have ever gotten.  I will always cherish the memories of this night forever.
Thank you, my lovely ladies, for the constant love and grace you have extended to me over the years.  Each of you have been a reflection of Jesus Christ in my life...I wouldn't want to meet the me that would exist without you :)

Much love,
Emily Elizabeth

P.S.  I don't think I could ever top this party...but I will sure try, Tori :)
