the green key

One of the best gifts I have ever received was from my husband right after we got married...a green key to our apartment.

I freaked out...you see, green is my absolute favorite color...and when he went to have the key duplicated, he could have gotten me just any key...but a shapeless little green key must have caught his eye...

when he gave it to me, he could not figure out why I was so excited...well, let me tell you

yes, alot of people know my favorite color is green...but we had been just married...this was our first home...and this gift of green key was all the proof in the world that I needed to know that I married the right man...one that would show me he loved and thought about me often through small, meaningful gifts...

what more could a girl want...might as well have been the green key to my heart

much love to the hubbs,

because He first loved me

Love should be free...and given to anyone...because that is what He does for us...and He calls us to be Him to the world...it's a big job, but someone's got to do it

mamachee inspired

I've wanted to learn to crochet for a year, and it wasn't until I discovered this infinity scarf pattern on Etsy.com that I got inspired.  I

had talked and talked about wanting to learn to our Sr. Pastor's wife, Janell...it only took one look at the pattern and a Wednesday night to seal our fate of being crocheting teacher and student...and now partners.  Janell has poured hours and hours into helping me learn to crochet, and not just learn...but do the projects I want to do...yes, I may be a quick learner...but without all the one-on-one time she has invested in me...I would still be trying to learn how to chain...:)

Thanks Janell...you have secured a lifelong hobby and deepened our friendship...thank you for your time and patience

Over 1,000 yards of yarn and four months later, I am a crocheting machine (ask the hubbs).  There is nothing better than vegging on the couch and working on something mindlessly...only to have an amazing gift or accessory to wear the next day.

My newest project:
Amigurumi: the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures.

Many more projects to come

Much Love,
Emily Elizabeth

roommie love

I only had one college roommate...and she stuck with me for two years...and she saw me through a lot...and I feel like anyone who can live with me for as little as a year (much less two) and still love me is a person worth bragging on...I mean...currently, I lived longer with Laurie than I have with my husband (let's hope the two of them never compare their experiences)

The picture below is a from J. Crew catalog...from time to time, sweet Laurie will send me a page ripped from the wonderful thing that is their monthly catalog and mail it to me with various comments.

This one touched my heart so deeply that it may have, in fact, inspired this entire blog. Meet Laurie's Beulah and my Juanita.

Thank you, Squirt...you will always have a special place in my heart.

Much love,

"love never fails"

This verse in 1 Corinthians 13 has been my motto for about 3 years now...I have lived this out in various ways, but I would say the best have been through relationships with my husband, family, close friends and a year spent in Chicago.

As I continue to reflect on what "love" is, I realize how I receive love the best and give it...but does that make it "love"? I believe that the only love that exists is the love of God...everything else we give the title to really is just a poor attempt to be real love.

The world cannot exist without this perfect love from God, and neither can a relationship endure without it. So this blog, I hope, will be a reflection on how I experience love...God's and human...but more importantly, God's through people.

My desire is to say lovely...through every word, action and thought I have for others...and this is my journey.

Much love-
Emily Elizabeth
